Inbetriebnahme eines Thermo-PIV Prüfstands

Task

The cooling of thermally highly stressed components plays a key role in modern gas turbines and aircraft engines. At ITS, the cooling air-hot gas interaction during film cooling blow-out is being investigated experimentally using stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV) in order to measure time-resolved velocity fields. In future, these measurements are to be supplemented by temperature field measurements using laser-induced phosphorescence (LIP) to create what is known as Thermo-PIV.

In order to establish the Thermo-PIV measurement technology at the ITS, initial experience must be gained with the measurement technology. The tracer particles used and their properties play a major role in this. The tracer particles are to be characterized as part of this work. Initial thermo-PIV measurements are to be carried out on a first simplified test rig in order to calibrate the particles.

The work consists of the following work packages:

  • Familiarization with the topics of film cooling, PIV and Thermo-PIV
  • Characterization of the tracer particles
  • Design and construction of a highly simplified test rig
  • First thermo-PIV measurements to calibrate the particles
